Wael Darwish
Wael Darwish is the Regional Director of the Middle East Programme at Caritas Switzerland, overseeing humanitarian and development portfolios across Lebanon, Syria, the occupied Palestinian territory, Iran, and Iraq. He brings extensive experience managing complex responses across the region, including in Yemen and Jordan.
Throughout his career, Wael has worked closely with local and national organizations operating in protracted and rapidly evolving crises. His work focuses on strengthening locally led action, building equitable partnerships, and ensuring that local actors have a meaningful role in strategic and operational decision-making. He brings practical experience in navigating the challenges surrounding funding, compliance, risk-sharing, institutional capacity, and accountability to affected communities. Before joining Caritas Switzerland, Wael held senior leadership roles with the Danish Refugee Council and Première Urgence Internationale. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Agribusiness from the American University of Beirut and is a certified Cash and Learning Partnership trainer.
