Suzany Gonzalez Sambrano
Suzany is a lawyer, specialized in Gender and Human Rights, and a feminist activist with more than 15 years of experience defending the human rights of women, girls, and LGBTIQ+ people.
She is also dedicated to social research, focusing on comprehensive sexual education, adolescent pregnancy, child sexual abuse, and trafficking in women for sexual exploitation, among other topics related to gender-based violence and sexual and reproductive rights.
She is currently the founder and Executive Director of CEDESEX (Spanish acronym for Center for the Study of Sexual and Reproductive Rights), a Venezuelan foundation dedicated to promoting and advocating for the right of all people to a life free from violence based on gender, sex, or sexual orientation.
Despite her young age, her professional and academic career has allowed her to take on important roles, such as Deputy Minister for the Protection of Women's Rights and Venezuelan Diplomat to the UN in Geneva. She has also been a candidate for the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW).
Since 2019, given the Venezuelan context, Suzany has ventured into the humanitarian field, where she has significantly contributed to the incorporation of a gender-transformative approach. For this reason, she is currently part of the coordination board of the Gender Equality Network of the Venezuelan humanitarian architecture and serves as Gender Spokesperson for the Humanitarian Country Team.
