Solomon Thomas
Chief, Innovative & Alternative Finance for Children,
UNICEF
Solomon Thomas is currently the Chief, Innovative and Alternative Finance for Children at UNICEF, responsible for leading the development of innovative financing products with the private sector. In the past, he was the acting Principal Advisor for Innovative Financing for UNICEF Global. He led the development of UNICEF’s first Global Innovative Financing Strategy to accelerate progress toward the SDGs for children; conceptualized and co-led the first-ever World Bank UNICEF Bond, a forward-flow arrangement for US$100 million via the capital markets; and conceptualized and led the implementation of the first-ever integrated climate risk financing instrument for children, a global $100M parametric cyclone risk insurance instrument. He is a former Country Relationship Manager for UNICEF’s National Committee portfolio, which generated USD 1 billion in revenue per year. Prior to UNICEF, Solomon worked in financial consulting services, responsible for managing and supporting strategic client partnerships with financial institutions in the US Mid-Atlantic region.
