Oleksandr (Sasha) Nesterenko

Water and Peace Officer, IFRC

Oleksandr (Sasha) Nesterenko is a humanitarian professional with nearly a decade of experience in water, sanitation, and infrastructure programming across conflict-affected settings. He has led WASH operations in Nigeria, South Sudan, Ukraine, Cameroon. His work bridges engineering expertise with humanitarian diplomacy, promoting sustainable solutions, collaboration, and the integration of international humanitarian law into operational practice.

Sasha holds master’s degrees in Agricultural Engineering and Water and Sanitation Engineering, providing a strong technical foundation for his policy and field engagement. Currently, he serves as Water and Peace Officer at the IFRC Geneva, where he leads the integration of water security into conflict prevention and peacebuilding frameworks.
