Nigel Pont has been leading humanitarian operations in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Indonesia, the Balkans, Iraq, Yemen and Syria since 1993. He started his career in Afghanistan where he experienced the civil war and the Taliban’s rise and rule in the 90’s, and then the post 9/11 chapter of counter insurgency and state building. From 2009-2011 Nigel coordinated Rory Stewart’s Afghanistan project at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government. A British national, born in Iran and growing up in Pakistan, Nigel has a deep affinity for the region, its people and its culture. He spent much of his career with the global organization Mercy Corps, most recently for 5 years as their global Chief People and Strategy Officer. He is currently the Senior Advisor for Humanitarian Affairs at HesabPay and the Algorand Foundation, driving the adoption of blockchain based humanitarian cash transfers in fragile contexts such as Afghanistan and Syria.
