Gonzalo Piernavieja Izquierdo
Gonzalo Piernavieja Izquierdo is Director of Research, Development and Innovation at the Instituto Tecnológico de Canarias, where he leads multidisciplinary programmes focused on renewable energy, water technologies, sustainability and applied innovation.
A physicist educated at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, Gonzalo joined ITC in 1996 following doctoral research work at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. He has since contributed to the development and international deployment of innovative technologies for island, remote and climate-vulnerable environments.
Within the ClimaRisk initiative, he supports the integration of energy, water and cold-chain technologies into scalable infrastructure for humanitarian assistance, disaster response and climate resilience.
