Md. Fakhar Uddin

Md. Fakhar Uddin is a Social, Behavioral and Implementation Science researcher with an academic background in Anthropology. Mr. Uddin works as an Associate Scientist at icddr,b (International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh), a leading public health research institute based in Dhaka, Bangladesh, where he has been employed for 15 years. His expertise spans maternal and child health and nutrition, gender studies, and health systems research.

Uddin has successfully led social science and mixed-methods research in both Bangladesh and Ethiopia. Mr. Uddin is currently working as Principal Investigator (PI) of four studies funded by the Gates Foundation, University of Oxford, NIHR, Terre des hommes (Tdh)- Novo Nordisk Foundation, and UNICEF, Bangladesh. Notably, Mr. Uddin is working as a Principal Investigator (PI) on a study to assess implementation feasibility, acceptability, fidelity and adaptability of Climate-Resilient and Environmentally Sustainable Healthcare (CRESH) Adaptation Solutions in primary healthcare facilities in Bangladesh. Mr. Uddin is also currently leading a proof-of-principle intervention trial that supports families of children at high-risk of post-discharge mortality. He is also leading another study as PI to understand the moral distress and ethical dilemmas, and support processes among frontline research staff in Bangladesh.

Mr. Uddin is particularly interested in research related to climate change, gender studies, nutrition, ethical and practical dilemmas, and moral distress. Uddin has authored 26 publications in peer-reviewed journals. He has partnered with institutions such as the KEMRI-Wellcome Trust, the Gates Foundation, the University of Washington, the University of Oxford, UNICEF-Bangladesh, Brown University, Johns Hopkins University, and Terre des hommes.
