As the Humanitarian Innovative Finance Lead at Tearfund, Chris McDonald leverages more than two decades of disaster management expertise to address the funding shortages of an increasingly overwhelmed global aid system. Over the last five years, he has specialized in Risk Finance, successfully designing frameworks that connect upfront disaster insurance with localized response. Following the success of an Anticipatory Action pilot he initiated in 2024–2025, Chris is directing an ambitious multi-year strategy (2026–2028) to triple the project's reach. The initiative is scaling to protect 150,000 vulnerable people across six countries from the dual climate threats of extreme drought and excess rainfall.
