With more than 20 years of experience, Betseit Sisay has helped drive program excellence, build strong partnerships, and support national development in Ethiopia.
Betseit Sisay is a development leader with more than twenty years of experience advancing key initiatives in Ethiopia. She earned a Master of Arts in Regional and Local Development Studies and a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from Addis Ababa University, which supports her expertise in both technical and managerial areas. Throughout her career, she has held different senior leadership positions directing country and regional programs. As Country Director for Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation Ethiopia, she set the strategic direction and managed projects focused Water, Food and Climate (sustainable agriculture, humanitarian interventions, natural resource management) Skills and jobs (equipping communities with different skills with special emphasis on women and youth, connecting skills with income generation) and Voice, cohesion and Inclusion. In this role, she guided a diverse team, worked closely with donors, secured funding, and made sure programs matched both organizational goals and national priorities.
As Country Director for Women’s Hope International, she demonstrated her skill in building and leading country operations. She managed the $530 million Ethiopia World Bank, Jobs Compact Program, working with five Federal Government Ministries, several donors. Also worked at FCDO, (previously DFID Ethiopia), where she focused on results-based management, evaluation, and oversight of Humanitarian and Development projects. Betseit is recognized for her strategic leadership, forging strong partnerships, and dedication to achieving lasting results.
