Bahati Ernestine
Bahati Maganjo is the Technical Advisor for Refugee Leadership and Refugee-Centered Programming at RefugePoint, where she works to strengthen meaningful refugee participation and ensure refugee perspectives are embedded across organizational programs, policies, and decision-making. Her work focuses on advancing refugee leadership, supporting refugee-centered programming, and fostering more equitable partnerships with refugee-led organizations.
Bahati joined RefugePoint in 2022 as a Labour Mobility Advisor, supporting complementary pathways for refugees. Before joining RefugePoint, she worked as a Registered Nurse with the Nova Scotia Health Authority in Canada and previously as a Continuing Care Assistant at Glen Haven Manor in Nova Scotia. Prior to that, she served as a United Nations Volunteer with the UNHCR Nairobi Branch Office as Youth Activities Coordinator, and as a Research Associate and Research Trainee Coordinator with the Refugee-Led Research Hub at the University of Oxford. Bahati also worked as a nurse at Kenyatta National Hospital in Nairobi during the COVID-19 pandemic.
As someone with lived experience as a refugee, she is passionate about ensuring refugees are not only consulted but are recognized as leaders, experts, and partners in shaping the policies and programs that affect their lives. Bahati holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Moi University in Kenya, a Certificate in Kenyan Sign Language from the University of Nairobi, a Certificate in Global Health Project Management from the University of Washington, and a Certificate in Medical Peace Work.
