Aldo Spaini

Aldo Spaini leads the Sustainable Supply Chain Unit at the United Nations’ World
Food Programme (WFP) headquarters in Rome. This multi-faceted portfolio,
focused on building sustainability and resilience of WFP Supply Chain in 2030 and
beyond, includes enabling the transition towards a sustainable supply chain, and
strengthening resilience and agility of supply chain systems to external agents
such as climate change, conflicts and biohazards.
Aldo joined WFP in 2003 and served in operations in both complex emergencies
and development contexts in Sub-Saharan Africa, South and South-East Asia, the
Middle East and Central America. He joined the response to the protracted
emergency in South Sudan where he coordinated the first food pre-positioning
exercise in 2007, he deployed to Liberia during the Ebola response in 2014 as
Deputy Chief Common Services and to Yemen at the onset of the crisis in 2015 as
Head of Logistic Cluster, and headed the Supply Chain activities in several other
operations. Aldo covered diverse functions in WFP, in Logistics, Food Procurement,
Goods and Services Procurement and Partnership, thus acquiring a transversal
knowledge across the Supply Chain and WFP organizational spectrum.
Aldo graduated in engineering at Politecnico di Milano in 2002, and achieved an
MBA with distinction in 2014 at the London Business School.
