Albashir Ibrahim
Albashir is an international development leader with 15+ years driving locally led humanitarian action, civil society strengthening, and the governance of pooled funds in Kenya and Somalia. Formerly on the Start Network Global Membership Committee and Co-Chair of a Community Engagement and Accountability Taskforce, he has provided strategic oversight, MEAL-informed adaptation, and fund stewardship as Executive Director of two organizations managing multi-donor programs (USAID, FCDO, EU, ECHO, KOICA, DANIDA, SIDA, DRA, among others).
A committed advocate for shifting power and resources to national and community level actors, he has hands-on experience building capacity-sharing approaches, strengthening local partner governance, and leading humanitarian responses in conflict-affected and fragile contexts. He offers a strategic, evidence-driven perspective well suited to steering committee, board, and advisory roles guiding the design and evolution of pooled humanitarian funding mechanisms.
He currently serves as Executive Director of the Organization for Sustainable Development Africa (OSDA), leading strategic efforts in resource mobilization, humanitarian response, climate resilience, peacebuilding, governance, and inclusive development. He also convenes and hosts the Kenya Humanitarian and Resilience
Network (KHRN), a collaborative platform for regional change-makers. He is a member of Somali Climate Action Platform (SCAP) and FOCUS Platform, two locally led networks in Somalia. Albashir is also a member of the Steering Committee, Help Localisation Facility (HLE), a locally led fund with and for civil society actors in Ukraine
and Syria.
OSDA is a national/local organization headquartered in Kenya with programs in the fragile ecosystems of the Horn of Africa (Kenya, Somalia, and Ethiopia), building community resilience through transformative and sustainable programs. Before OSDA, Albashir was Executive Director of Nexus Consortium Somalia, a locally led consortium. He has actively participated in various initiatives and discussions on anticipatory action, triple nexus programming, climate financing, climate-resilient programming, and aid localization
