The Organisation for Sustainable Development Africa (OSDA) is a national/local non-governmental organisation founded in 2013 and headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya. OSDA works directly with communities across Kenya, Somalia, and Ethiopia, concentrating its programming in fragile ecosystems throughout the Horn of Africa — a region shaped by recurrent drought, displacement, and conflict. As a locally rooted actor, OSDA occupies a distinctive position within the humanitarian and development landscape: close enough to the communities it serves to design context-appropriate, community-driven responses, while operating with the institutional systems needed to partner with international donors and agencies.
OSDA's footprint spans three countries at the heart of the Horn of Africa's fragile ecosystems: arid and semi-arid Kenya, where it works alongside county governments and community structures on resilience and development priorities; Somalia, a protracted conflict and displacement context demanding strong local partnerships and adaptive, risk-aware delivery; and Ethiopia, extending its cross-border reach into another geography facing recurrent drought and displacement pressures. Operating across these fragile ecosystems calls for locally grounded relationships, strong risk management, and the ability to sustain programme continuity through disruption — capabilities central to OSDA's identity as a national/local, rather than international, organisation.
OSDA's programming spans a broad set of thematic areas reflecting the multi-sectoral needs of the communities it serves, including Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH), Food Security & Livelihoods (FSL), Peace-building & Governance, Climate Resilience, Health, Education, and Protection, among others.
