When People Risk Becomes Reality - Protecting Your Mission, People and Reputation

21 Oct 2026
Workshop Room 3

For NGOs and humanitarian aid organisations operating in difficult and rapidly changing environments, a people incident rarely remains just a people incident. A medical emergency, detention, security event, evacuation failure, or volunteer injury can quickly become a governance, donor confidence, operational, and reputational challenge.

This practical session explores how NGOs can protect their staff, volunteers, local nationals, expats, contracted partners, and the communities they support before, during, and after a critical event. Using real-world scenarios, Gallagher and Ascot will examine common protection gaps, how duty of care, risk management, crisis response, and insurance coverage should work together, and what strong NGO–broker–insurer coordination looks like when people are at risk. Attendees will leave with practical steps and best practice resources to assess current procedures, strengthen implementation, and confidently improve readiness when it matters most.

Attendees will leave with a practical expectation guide detailing how you should be maximising your insurance partner relationships, ensuring better outcomes.
