Finding the Most Vulnerable - Data, AI and the Nexus Approach in an Era of Scarce Resources
Humanitarian needs continue to rise while available resources struggle to keep pace. Across the sector, organizations are increasingly faced with difficult decisions about where to focus assistance, which communities to prioritize, and how to maximize impact with limited funding.
Traditional assessment approaches often provide valuable national or regional insights but may struggle to identify highly localized pockets of vulnerability where multiple risks converge. At the same time, humanitarian, development and climate actors are being challenged to work more collaboratively and target interventions in a more integrated manner.
This session will explore how advances in data, geospatial analytics and artificial intelligence can support more granular understanding of vulnerability and strengthen evidence-based prioritization. Rather than focusing on technology itself, the discussion will examine how innovative approaches can help humanitarian actors operationalize nexus programming, identify communities facing overlapping risks, and make difficult allocation decisions more transparently and effectively.
Drawing on experiences from collaboration between humanitarian organizations and the private sector, panelists will share practical lessons on translating innovation into operational decision-making and discuss both the opportunities and challenges of applying emerging technologies in humanitarian contexts.
