AidEx Brussels

AidEx is the leading international event dedicated to the unique needs of development and aid professionals across the world; held over two days annually at Brussels Expo, in Belgium.

AidEx is recognised as a major platform for networking, making new contacts and doing business. By taking part, you will forge new relationships in the community, raise awareness of your organisation and be involved in the sourcing of new solutions to improve the efficiency of aid delivery.

AidEx Africa

Now in it's fourth year, AidEx Africa is a two-day high-profile conference which takes place annually in Nairobi, Kenya. AidEx Africa was developed as a satellite event to the already well-established AidEx conference and exhibition for humanitarian and development aid, held each year in Brussels.

AidEx Africa attracts over 300 delegates from the Government of Kenya, UN agencies, Kenyan Red Cross and leading NGOs from Africa and beyond.

Regional Director, Horn and East Africa

Currently Oxfam’s Horn East and Central Africa Regional Director, with over 20 years of experience working for various International Aid Agencies including Save the Children, Concern Worldwide, Diakonie Caritas and Unicef in Africa (Somalia, Tanzania, Mozambique, Angola, Niger and Kenya) as well as 4 years in Cambodia. In addition to experience in planning and delivery of large training and infrastructure programmes, Nigel has led successful campaigns such as: Reduction of duties paid on agricultural produce and improved governance and marketing for small scale cashew producers in Tanzania; Increase local procurement of food aid in Niger and Cambodia and the improvement of NGO legislation in Kenya, Tanzania and Cambodia. While working as the Country Director Kenya program, Nigel lead in Oxfam’s representation with government, private sector, civil society and international institutions. He initiated and led Oxfam’s contribution to: the Mkenya Daima peace campaign (2007 elections), the drafting and passing of the PBO Act, the strengthening of the CSO Reference group and the establishment of the Kenya Civil Society Platform on Oil and Gas.

Throughout his work experience, he has managed to increase impact through improvement in strategic programming including increased budgets and programme growth. He has a wealth of experience in Humanitarian assistance leading complex responses in Somalia, Sahel, Kenya, including Oxfam CAT 1. In 2011 Nigel led in raising funds for Oxfam’s CAT1 from all major donors (ECHO, DfID, OFDA, CIDA, AusAID, WFP) whilst ensuring compliance, strong evaluations and positive audits. Additionally, he has built and led diverse teams (from 3 to 791) across diverse geographical areas and has been responsible for annual budgets up to £58million pa.

Representing Oxfam, Nigel is a board member and currently Chair of FAIRTRADE East Africa, the region’s first FAIRTRADE marketing organisation.

He holds an MSC in Development Planning. He is a native English speaker, fluent in French, good in Kiswahili, fair Portuguese and basic Somali.
