AidEx Africa

Now in it's fourth year, AidEx Africa is a two-day high-profile conference which takes place annually in Nairobi, Kenya. AidEx Africa was developed as a satellite event to the already well-established AidEx conference and exhibition for humanitarian and development aid, held each year in Brussels.

AidEx Africa attracts over 300 delegates from the Government of Kenya, UN agencies, Kenyan Red Cross and leading NGOs from Africa and beyond.

Since 2000, Barrett Communications has provided over 30,000 High Frequency (HF) radio systems and equipment to humanitarian and peacekeeping forces in Africa, Asia, South America and the Middle East. Find them at AidEx Brussels on Stand C90.

Long-standing AidEx exhibitor Barrett Communications specialises in providing critical infrastructure and rapid emergency response in natural and manmade disasters, ensuring critical communications channels are maintained and emergency aid makes it to where it’s most needed.

Barrett SDR 300Now, to mark their 40th anniversary, Barrett Communications have announced the upcoming release of their latest innovation, the Barrett 4050 HF SDR (Software-Defined Radio).

This new generation of HF transceiver combines Software-Defined Radio technology with the intuitive “ease of use” that has become synonymous with the Barrett brand. With its unique user-friendly touchscreen interface it is aimed at a broad market, including peacekeeping, law enforcement and security organizations, humanitarian and non-government organisations (NGO) and commercial businesses.

IP network connectivity makes integration with existing networks simple and on-board Wi-Fi allows for secure seamless operation and control of the HF transceiver via iOS, Windows or Android based devices or via Windows or OSX on desktop computers. The device’s similarity to a smartphone with regards to portability and functionality, and the ability to run the radio via app on your smartphone, tablet or PC, make this the most user-friendly HF radio yet. Very little training is needed to get started using it.

Mr Greg O'Neill, Managing Director of Barrett Communications explains: “The level of user accessibility at a local and remote level is a highly significant technological advance in the HF radio communications market. This can all be achieved whilst still providing secure communications via encryption or frequency hopping options.”

Aware that a significant proportion of their equipment is used by non-English speakers, Barrett have made multiple languages available as standard on the transceiver. These will initially include Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish with additional languages being added progressively. When the Barrett 4050 HF SDR is teamed with other Barrett HF products it also provides secure digital voice, secure email, data transfer and telephone connectivity within an HF network and onward to the international telephone network and internet.

Orders for the Barrett 4050 HF SDR will be accepted from September 2016 and the product will be on display on the Barrett Communications stand C90 at AidEx Brussels on 16 and 17 November.
