AidEx Brussels

AidEx is the leading international event dedicated to the unique needs of development and aid professionals across the world; held over two days annually at Brussels Expo, in Belgium.

AidEx is recognised as a major platform for networking, making new contacts and doing business. By taking part, you will forge new relationships in the community, raise awareness of your organisation and be involved in the sourcing of new solutions to improve the efficiency of aid delivery.


AidEx Africa

Now in it's fourth year, AidEx Africa is a two-day high-profile conference which takes place annually in Nairobi, Kenya. AidEx Africa was developed as a satellite event to the already well-established AidEx conference and exhibition for humanitarian and development aid, held each year in Brussels.

AidEx Africa attracts over 300 delegates from the Government of Kenya, UN agencies, Kenyan Red Cross and leading NGOs from Africa and beyond.

Arid Land Development Focus (ALDEF) Kenya

ALDEF is a national NGO formerly Wajir Voluntary Group established in 1989/90 drought crisis. It transformed into a reputable NGO registered in Kenya 1999 and Somalia 2015. It envisages being a fraternized family committed to ‘Voluntary Service to Humanity’ in arid regions of the Horn of Africa.

Ahmed has since 2013 being proactive in enhancing voice, influencing and advocacy on localization of humanitarian action - strengthening frontline capabilities and skills. Has proactively participated in forums in run up to World Humanitarian Summit 2016 and speaker at Start Network: start for change week at London May 2016 & NEAR network 22nd June 2016 at Hilton Istanbul Turkey.

Ahmed has 27 years experience working with diverse stakeholders (Government, Consultancy, NGOs) as a Public Health Engineer and Advisor, Programs Manager then an Associate Country Director with Oxfam and in between a Chief of party Emergency with CARE International in Somalia over 10 years. He has previously worked on drought management programmes funded by Netherlands Government and World Bank in northern Kenya. Ahmed has managed large scale 2011 HoA crisis responses, 2004/5 Tsunami response along Somalia coastline and 2006/7 Drought/conflict IDPs responses in South Somalia: use and scale up of cash transfers and voucher programs, alternative ways of working in conflict prone areas, beneficiary SMS based Acute Watery Diarrhea preparedness and control. Previously oversaw interagency piloting of community based vulnerability and capacity assessment methodologies, strengthening community based nutrition and water management mechanism, led piloting use of draught animal power for drought preparedness.

Ahmed hails from a large pastoralist Somali family background of 16 children, and holds an M.A. in Water Resource Management (University of Nairobi), Diploma in water supplies (ground water option) and B.Sc. in Water engineering (Kenyatta Universities).
